Today’s Intrinsiq Client Focus article introduces us to Oxford International Education Group, a private education provider that operates international colleges, English language centres across the UK, Europe, North America as well as an online learning platform.
David Brown and Robert Darell established Oxford International Education Group in 1991 as ISIS Education and Travel. The company began organising international trips for students at UK universities from September through June. They set up summer English language programs for students from other countries.
The Prince's Trust, one of the UK's most popular youth charities, was contacted by the company's founders to obtain funding for business expansion. To assist David and Robert in guiding the company through the following phase of its lifecycle, the Trust provided a £5,000 loan and two mentors. Nowadays, Oxford International has developed into one of the Top 10 companies supported by the Trust and continues to have a close relationship with it.
Since 1991, the organisation has supported over half a million students from all around the world.
In 1993 the organisation acquired its first UK adult English language school with the acquisition of Greenwich School of English. In 1999, they opened the Brighton School of English, offering General English courses.
Another important milestone for Oxford International Study Group came about in 2013, when the group expanded their operations to Vancouver and Toronto by acquiring English language schools there.
The same year, Oxford International was very proud to sign a Pathways partnership agreement with De Montfort University to open and run the Leicester International Pathway College (renamed to De Montfort University International College) in the heart of the great De Montfort campus.
Also in 2014, San Diego was added to the organisation's centres in North America.
In 2021, Oxford International strengthened its position as a premier university partnerships, digital education, and language provider through a management buyout backed by THI Investments and the sale of its schools division to Nord Anglia Education. Oxford International’s launch of the OI Digital Institute and European partnership with Jacobs University in 2020 has further developed the international education sector online and in Europe. Courses offered in the OI Digital Institute have supported over 5,000 students in achieving UK university admissions and delivered unrivalled partner services for higher education institutions.
