Michael L. Smith, who is the Director of the American School of Valencia, has taken to social media to announce that he has been elected Commissioner of the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools.

"After many years of serving in multiple capacities with the Middle States Association Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools, I am privileged, proud and happy to share that I have been elected as a Commissioner to support the growth, development and improvement of American and international schools through the MSA accreditation process," he wrote.

Historically, MSA-CESS has operated in the mid-Atlantic region with its cooperative partners, however, it has now also expanded its scope to include schools and institutions seeking accreditation throughout the United States. The Commissions also award accreditation to member institutions in more than 85 countries around the world.

The Commissions on Elementary and Secondary Schools are affiliated with the United States State Department’s Office of Overseas Schools and provide accreditation services to American and international style schools attended by members of the U.S. foreign service and U. S. citizens working for non-government agencies and multi-national corporations.

Mr Smith concluded his post by thanking his colleagues and partners for "the opportunity to serve with such illustrious educators on the MSA Commissions."
