Malta has always been a top choice for English language learners, with its gorgeous Mediterranean setting and rich culture. But the island faces some environmental challenges, especially with 99% of students needing to fly in. The good news is that despite these challenges, Malta’s ELT sector is rising to meet sustainability goals, and we’ve got some fantastic news from our partners at Green Standard Schools (GSS).
GSS is delighted to announce that two brilliant Maltese language schools have recently achieved Green Standard Schools accreditation: Alpha School of English and BELS Gozo. This is a significant achievement for Malta’s international education sector and shows that meaningful environmental action is possible. Both schools have shown exceptional commitment to environmental sustainability, going beyond basic compliance to actively engage their staff and students in green initiatives.
Alpha School of English has been around since 1991, welcoming students from all over the world to St Paul’s Bay. This traditional fishing village turned family resort is home to their newly refurbished premises, just 350 metres from the sea. Their newly refurbished premises combine modern facilities with their commitment to environmental responsibility, proving that even established schools can successfully adapt to meet today’s environmental challenges.
BELS Gozo operates from a beautifully converted traditional house of character in the village of KerÄ‹em. The school’s setting in Gozo’s natural surroundings creates an ideal environment for combining language learning with environmental awareness. With nine bright classrooms, a sun terrace and garden, BELS Gozo shows how traditional architecture can be adapted for modern, sustainable education while maintaining its cultural charm.
These newly-accredited language schools are demonstrating that being environmentally responsible doesn’t mean compromising on great education. Congratulations to both schools! We can’t wait to see more Malta ELT schools joining them soon.
