Trine University’s esports programme has achieved unprecedented success in their new $2.1 million facility, securing multiple championships and establishing themselves as a rising force in collegiate gaming. The programme’s remarkable achievements coincide with the grand opening of the Mark and Sarah Music/Ruoff Mortgage Esports Arena, marking a new era for competitive gaming at the institution.
The new 5,600-square-foot arena has transformed a former auditorium into a gaming powerhouse. Housing 60 state-of-the-art gaming computers, the facility features a dynamic competitive battle stage, an expansive spectator area, and a fully-equipped broadcast booth for live streaming and commentary. This significant investment is part of Trine’s commitment to excellence in collegiate esports.
The impact of the new facility was immediately evident as Trine’s teams dominated their inaugural season in the arena. The Thunder secured their first-ever MIAA Block House Esports League (MIAA BEL) championship with an impressive 380-point performance across multiple games. The programme’s success was particularly notable in:
Success also extended to individual achievements, with six Thunder players earning All-Star recognition—more than any other MIAA school. Logan Gault made history as the first player to receive All-Star honours in two different games during the same season, exemplifying the programme’s emphasis on multi-game excellence.
These achievements, together with the world-class facility, position Trine University at the forefront of collegiate esports. As Director of Esports, Jeremy Goossens, notes, “This was Trine Esports’ best semester by far. We look forward to building a legacy of success in our new facility.”
