Equinox forges strong links between Ireland and Spain

Published EDU-WorldWide on Wednesday, December 5, 2018

Earlier this May, Equinox’s Managing Director Noel Doyle reflected on the work Equinox Education Services continually undertakes to promote Irish education and culture by forging new links between Equinox and its overseas partners. In this blog, Noel summarises the highlights of a meeting existing and prospective partners on a recent trip to Spain.

I think it would be fair to say that there has always been a great affinity between Ireland and Spain as nations, not just in our shared religious, ideological and cultural similarities, but also in our desire to travel and integrate freely wherever we are. Whilst this affinity is not mutually exclusive, there is no doubting the desire of our respective peoples to travel between our countries in large numbers and indeed, this is reflected by the large quantities of students that come to experience Ireland through programmes facilitated by Equinox.

Over the years we have worked with selected partners from Spain and have built up many strong relationships, both personal and professional. In each instance, we strive to provide our partners with something unique to meet the needs of their students, whether it be a group programmes focused on learning English through entrepreneurialism or individualised academic-year placements, we have a strong record of delivering on what we promise.

It was with this in mind that my colleague, Caroline Newport, our International Programmes Manager and I travelled to Spain this month to renew and strengthen our existing ties and to meet some prospective clients for the very first time. Having worked in International education for more than twenty years I have spent a lot of time interfacing with people in person in many different ways, be it at education forums, fairs or seminars and I can say without equivocation, that it always works best to take the time to meet people in the own environments. This provides for a much more focused and often, relaxed setting where you can talk open and honestly without distraction. Our recent trip to Spain was no exception, where over five days we met nine separate clients in Madrid, Valencia and Barcelona.

Some of our meetings served to take stock of our partnerships, to renew arrangements for 2019 and to discuss how improvements and new ideas could be implemented. In some cases we renewed former acquaintances and in some, we sat down for the very first time to open up a conversation about how we could potentially work together. Overall our trip was successful on many levels and Caroline and I would like thank everyone for their wonderful hospitality during the week and we look forward to a successful year ahead.

In the meantime my personal goal is to continue to promote  Ireland as a destination of choice for International students not just in Spain, but globally, whilst at the same time bringing new immersive, overseas study and cultural options for our Irish clients.
