Newsfeed: Epiphany Celebrations at Accent Francais French Language School

  Publisher : Bernice   06 January 2023 12:12

Accent Francais French Language School is celebrating the Epiphany today with the traditional Galette des Rois, otherwise known as the cake of kings.

The school commented that "the season of the galette des rois begins twelve days after Christmas and ends on Mardi Gras. Celebrated on the 6th January, Epiphany corresponds to the presentation of the infant Jesus to the Magi, Melchior, Gaspard and Balthazar, who came from three continents, Asia, Africa and Europe, to deliver their gifts."

"Like many Christian festivals, Epiphany was originally a pagan festival. In the past, the Romans celebrated the Saturnalia, the winter solstice festival, which consisted of designating the king or queen of the day by means of a white or black bean hidden in a cake," they added.

Students at the school got to taste this traditional pastry today and those who found the bean were even crowned as kings and queens!!
