In a world that grows more connected each day, language is one of the most powerful tools for building friendships across cultures. At the UCT English Language Centre (ELC), located at UCT Hiddingh Campus in Cape Town, our classrooms are more than just places to learn English they are dynamic spaces where global citizens meet, connect, and grow. 

With over 300 students from around the world, with nationalities ranging from Congo, Mozambique, Angola, Brazil, Germany, Japan, China, Yemen and Saudi Arabia to many others. With an average class size of just 10 students, each learner benefits from personal attention while being immersed in a truly international community. 

At UCT ELC, we offer courses from Beginner to Advanced, including IELTS preparation, Business English and Academic English. But it’s our diverse student body and collaborative learning style that truly set us apart. 

In class, students work together on group activities and presentations, learning not just grammar and vocabulary, but how to communicate effectively across cultures. Outside the classroom, our Language Excursions and Social Programme offer a wide range of activities designed to help students experience Cape Town while practicing their English in real-world settings. From heritage walks and hikes to language-focused excursions and cultural events, there’s always something happening that encourages both learning and friendship.
