The past year marked the launch of SUFC International Football Academy, not simply as a new programme, but as a clear international pathway for young people with ambitions in both education and football. From the outset, the academy set out to do things differently: building strong foundations, setting high standards and placing student development at the centre of everything.
In its first year, the academy welcomed a diverse group of international student-athletes who quickly became part of a structured, supportive environment. Daily life combined professional football training with academic study, personal development and wellbeing support. Players were challenged to grow - technically, academically and personally - while learning the importance of discipline, teamwork and responsibility. Early progress on the pitch and in the classroom reflected the strength of this balanced approach.
Beyond performance, the academy’s multicultural setting played a defining role. Students trained and studied alongside peers from different countries and cultures, developing confidence, independence, and global awareness, essential skills for life abroad and future careers. Strong collaboration between coaches, educators and the student welfare team, ensured that every student was supported throughout the year.
Looking ahead, SUFC International Football Academy is building on the momentum of its launch year. With plans to expand international partnerships and progression routes into further education, higher education and football pathways, SUFC International Football Academy offers a credible and inspiring option for students ready to take their next step.
