At Kings Hall College, we like to think that a student’s learning experience should not be limited to the classroom. Our students have the opportunity to improve their English language skills after class by attending a wide range of social activities and academic workshops with their teachers and fellow students; however, we believe that a students’ learning experience does not end there. We believe that students can enhance their learning experience by exploring all that Manchester has to offer.
Manchester is a city that is renowned for its impact on the world. Whether for music, science, industry, or sport, Manchester has certainly played its part in shaping many aspects of contemporary English pop culture and tradition. We believe that Manchester is a perfect city for international students who want to learn more about English history, traditions, and culture in a city that is cheaper and less crowded than London.
Here are a few of our recommendations for picturesque green spaces that students can visit with their friends after class:
Heaton Park is largest park in the north-west of England, and is home to many attractions that are perfect for students. Activities include: a boat ride across the boating lake, a visit to the farm zoo, a walk through a wooded area, a picnic on the fields, and a trip to the amusement park (dependent on seasonal availability). Heaton Park is also the home of the famous music festival, Parklife. Parklife attracts around 80,000 people per year and is one of Manchester’s most anticipated events. Heaton Park is only a 15-minute tram ride from Kings Hall College, so it makes a perfect destination to visit to unwind after a hard day studying.
Platt Fields Park is a large public park in Fallowfield, a bustling student-centric district south of Manchester city centre. Platt Fields park is the location for many seasonal events throughout the year, including: Easter funfairs, religious funfairs, hot air balloon displays, arts & crafts events, music events, food festivals, and Halloween funfairs. Platt Fields Park is a 27-minute bus ride from Kings Hall College, so it is an easily accessible park to visit from the city centre.
Alexandra Park is located south of the city centre and is only a 23-minute bus ride from Kings Hall College. Alexandra Park is a scenic park that is a popular destination for walkers, runners, and picnickers. The park boasts many green areas, a small lake, and a café known as the Pavilion.
There are many other intriguing green spaces further a field that are easily accessible via train, tram, bus, or taxi. Some of our other recommendations include:
