Manchester has a rich and extensive history that extends back millennia to the Roman conquest of Britain in the first century. As a city brimming with history, Manchester is perfect for likes of history enthusiasts, travellers, and xenophile’s alike. Manchester’s unique charm and expansive history also makes it an ideal city for English language students too, especially those who want to fully immerse themselves in British culture and tradition.
Places of Interest: Manchester Central Library
Manchester is home to several buildings and sites that are hundreds of years old — many of which are even older than the U.S.A.!
One place of interest that we think would be perfect for English language students is none other than Manchester Central Library. Manchester Central Library is a treasure trove for any student who wants to practise their English in a quiet and comfortable atmosphere. Manchester Central Library has several study areas and resources that are accessible to students, including, not limited to:
📖 Wolfson Reading Room: If students are looking for a silent place to study, then we recommend the Wolfson Reading Room. This domed room is perfect for students who want to escape the hustle and bustle of the city, as a strict no speaking rule is enforced here.
🖥️ Computer Zones: Manchester Central Library is home to 100 PCs that have wi-fi and are free to use. They are perfect for any student who does not want to lug around their laptop after class.
☕️ Café: If students are feeling peckish after spending hours studying at the library, then they can head on down to the library café on the ground floor for a spot of tea and a slice of cake. Other food options are available throughout the course of the day.
📚 Over One Million Books: Naturally, the most impressive aspect of Manchester Central Library is its sheer quantity of books. Students will never run out of study material when browsing the library’s many bookshelves.
Manchester is home to many libraries that each have a unique charm and flair, however, we believe that Manchester Central Library is perfect for English language students, as it is situated in the centre of the city and is easily accessible from our college.
