  Publisher : Bernice   09 January 2025 07:29

Mariko joined BELS Language Schools in September 2024 and has quickly become an integral part of the team. Managing the Japanese and Brazilian markets, she is ready to assist agents and students in planning study trips and providing ongoing support during their time in Malta. Over the past few months, Mariko has connected with many agents and is eager to expand her network further. If you haven’t had the chance to connect yet, don’t miss the opportunity to schedule a meeting with her here.

Here’s what Mariko shared about her inspiring journey:

"Hello! My name is Mariko Kanaya. I was born in Tokyo, and I have always had a passion for travel and different cultures. As a child, I spent some time living in Australia, and in my 20s, I moved to the U.S. to study Fine Arts. My time in the U.S. eventually led me to Brazil, thanks to the many warm Brazilian friends I made there. While in Brazil, I learnt Portuguese, volunteered with children, and fell in love with the Brazilian culture."

Mariko’s international background has profoundly shaped her career. After returning to Tokyo, she worked for a Brazilian company, honing her language skills and cultural understanding. She later pursued a global adventure as a cabin crew member in the UAE, gaining experience interacting with people from all walks of life.

Ten years ago, Mariko chose Malta as her home. Drawn by the island’s rich culture and welcoming environment, she now brings her unique perspective and skills to BELS. Mariko believes Malta offers a perfect blend of quality education and cultural immersion, making it an ideal destination for international students.

"Through my experiences in various English-speaking countries, I feel that no other country is as welcoming to international students as Malta. That is why it is now my pleasure to work at BELS, where I can combine my passions for travel, people, and languages while managing the Japanese and Brazilian markets. For our international students, BELS feels like a second home. It’s not just about learning English—it’s about connecting with people, discovering new opportunities, and growing as a person.”

Mariko is excited to continue supporting agents and students, helping them achieve their study goals and make the most of their experience in Malta.
