IALC 2027 Workshop in San Sebastián: Agent Applications Open 1 September

  Publisher : Bernice   31 August 2026 07:56

There are certain dates in the international education calendar that are worth marking well in advance, and for language travel professionals, April 2027 is already shaping up to be one of them. The IALC Workshop is heading to San Sebastián in northern Spain, bringing education agents and IALC schools together for three days of appointments, conversations, professional exchange and the kind of informal networking that has made the event such a fixture in the study travel calendar.

Taking place from 11 to 14 April 2027, the next IALC Workshop will be hosted by Lacunza IH San Sebastián, giving participating agents the opportunity to discover one of Spain’s most distinctive study destinations while meeting independent language schools from across the IALC network. Agent applications open on 1 September 2026, so agencies interested in attending can soon put themselves forward for a place.

Why the IALC Workshop Matters for Education Agents

For agents, workshops work best when they create more than a packed diary of appointments. The real value comes from meeting the people behind the schools, understanding their programmes in greater depth and building relationships that continue long after everyone has gone home. This is particularly relevant when agents are looking to expand their portfolio or identify specialist options for students who want something beyond the most familiar destinations and institutions.

IALC represents a global network of quality assured independent language schools, with members offering language programmes across more than 120 destinations in 26 countries. The organisation places considerable emphasis on teaching standards, student services, individual character and a strong connection between each school and its local community. For agents, this means the annual workshop provides an unusually concentrated opportunity to meet a broad selection of independent schools within one event.

IALC describes its annual Workshop as a highlight of the study travel calendar, and its format is designed around both structured business and relationship building. The three day programme combines seminars and scheduled workshop appointments with networking opportunities and evening events, allowing conversations to continue beyond the meeting table. Importantly, it is the one IALC event where agents have the opportunity to meet schools from across the association in the same place.

Three Days to Strengthen Existing Partnerships and Start New Ones

International education remains a relationship driven industry. Emails, video calls and online presentations are useful, but meeting a school representative face to face can reveal far more about an institution, its personality and the way it works with agents and students.

The IALC 2027 Workshop gives agents time to reconnect with partners they already know while introducing themselves to schools they may not yet represent. Those conversations can help agents identify new destinations, understand emerging course options and gather the practical information they need when advising students and families.

This is particularly valuable for agencies seeking to diversify. Rather than depending on a small number of established destinations, agents can use international workshops to investigate different markets and develop a broader range of options for students with varying budgets, academic objectives, language goals and lifestyle preferences.

IALC also offers agencies opportunities beyond the annual Workshop, including training, webinars, roadshows, marketing resources and its Agency Loyalty Scheme. Agencies that regularly work with three or more IALC member schools can apply to become an IALC Agency, with benefits including recognition within the network, access to resources and automatic acceptance to IALC Workshops.

San Sebastián Takes Centre Stage in 2027

The location is an important part of every IALC Workshop, with the annual event moving between different study travel destinations and being hosted by a local member school. In 2027, that destination will be San Sebastián, with Lacunza IH San Sebastián welcoming the international IALC community to the city.

For education agents, experiencing a destination personally can make an enormous difference when selling it later. It is much easier to describe the atmosphere of a city, answer questions from prospective students and communicate what makes a destination distinctive when you have walked its streets and experienced it yourself.

San Sebastián offers an especially memorable setting. Its coastal location, celebrated food culture, elegant architecture and strong Basque identity give agents plenty to discover outside the meeting programme, while the presence of the host school offers the opportunity to see first hand what studying in the city can look and feel like.

That destination experience is one of the elements that distinguishes study travel workshops from conventional conferences. Agents return home not only with business cards and meeting notes, but with stories, photographs and first hand knowledge they can use when talking to students.

A Global Network of Independent Language Schools

Another reason for agents to consider the IALC Workshop is the distinctive profile of its membership. IALC focuses on independent language centres that teach the language of their country within an immersive environment, with accreditation standards covering areas including teaching, facilities and student services.

Independent schools can bring considerable variety to an agent's portfolio. Many have strong local identities and close links with their communities, allowing students to combine formal language learning with cultural experiences and everyday interaction in the destination.

This diversity also gives agents the possibility to match students more precisely with schools. Some clients may prioritise smaller classes and personalised attention, while others might be looking for a particular destination, specialised programme, accommodation arrangement or cultural experience. Building relationships with a wider selection of institutions gives agencies more flexibility when those enquiries arrive.

Why Agents Should Apply Early

Applications for the IALC 2027 Workshop open on 1 September 2026, several months ahead of the event itself. For agencies interested in attending, preparing early is sensible.

International workshops require planning, particularly when travel, appointments and other industry events are being coordinated across a busy calendar. Applying early also gives agents time to think strategically about what they want from the Workshop rather than approaching it simply as another networking event.

Before travelling, agencies can review the IALC school network, identify existing partners they would like to reconnect with and shortlist schools or destinations they want to explore. Having those objectives in mind makes scheduled appointments much more productive and helps ensure that conversations continue once the Workshop is over.

Agents who already send students to several IALC schools may also want to explore the IALC Agency Loyalty Scheme. The programme recognises agencies that demonstrate an ongoing commitment to quality language education and provides participating agents with additional visibility, resources and opportunities within the network.

Next Stop: San Sebastián

The countdown to IALC 2027 is officially beginning. From 11 to 14 April 2027, agents and language schools from around the world will come together in San Sebastián for three days centred around quality meetings, professional relationships and shared experiences.

For education agents, it is an opportunity to strengthen partnerships, discover new schools, learn more about different destinations and spend meaningful time with colleagues from across the international language education sector.

And with applications opening on 1 September, now is the time to put San Sebastián on the calendar.
