Fun Fact Friday: Will AI Replace Education Agents? Here’s the More Interesting Reality

  Publisher : Stephanie Clark   12 June 2026 06:00

Every few months, a new headline declares that AI is coming to take over another profession. So let’s place the spotlight on a question that’s been quietly circulating in international education circles: will AI replace education agents? The short answer is no. The more interesting answer? Agents who embrace AI may leave those who don’t far behind.

AI is a tool, not a talent

There’s no shortage of things AI does brilliantly – processing information quickly, answering repetitive questions at scale and being available at 3am when a student in a different time zone suddenly panics about their application. But what it can’t replicate is the judgement, empathy and nuanced guidance that a great education agent brings to the table. Choosing where to study abroad is a life-changing decision. Students don’t just need answers; they need someone who understands the full picture.

Where agents have the edge

Relationship-building, cultural insight and the ability to navigate complex, individual circumstances are areas where human agents genuinely excel. No chatbot can sit across from an anxious student and family, truly understand their ambitions and help them make a decision they’ll feel confident about for years to come.

The agents already getting ahead

What’s becoming clear is that the most effective agents aren’t ignoring AI, but they’re using it to handle administrative tasks so they can focus on what they do best. Faster responses, fewer missed enquiries and more time for real conversations.

Ultimately, AI isn’t the competition. For forward-thinking agents, it’s the advantage. The question isn’t whether to engage with these tools but how quickly you’re willing to start.
