How to succeed on LinkedIn

LinkedIn is the number one go-to social platform for B2B, especially when it comes to communicating with other industry professionals. Compared to other social media platforms this one is more career and business oriented. It is easier to track down your target audience on LinkedIn, but here are some tips and tricks you can follow to make sure you gain success on this platform, especially in such a highly competitive industry that is international education.

Be Specific on your profile - It’s OK to have more than one if necessary

Analyze your profile closely and make sure that it shows who you are and the standards you stand for; make use of specific keywords that relate to your work and industry. Using the right keywords makes sure that you come up in searches. Apart from that, also make sure that you dedicate one profile to each role you have. For example, if you are the Director of two companies in a completely different field or sector, make sure that you have one profile for each company / sector that you work in. People in one industry may know you as Mr. X who works at Company Y; and people in another industry may know you for your other role. Compartmentalisation is key!

Share Articles and content consistently

Like any other social media platform, sharing posts is essential on LinkedIn, it not only increases your visibility but also the visibility of the company you work for. Sharing articles is a step above and beyond; since it allows for more characters than a normal post, it allows you to elaborate more on subjects, showing your viewers that you are an expert in that field and creates trust with your connections.

Like any other social media platform, interacting on other profiles and pages. LinkedIn’s algorithm rewards engagement; creating content that sparks up a conversation is crucial, don’t be afraid to ask for opinions in your posts. More than that, make sure to interact with other people’s and company’s posts, this type of engagement gets more eyes on your profile and helps build your network

Use Hashtags

Hashtags are now part of the norm, in order for your posts to be visible to the right people, hashtags are essential; find out what hashtags your industry uses. Do a deep dive into competitors' posts to see what hashtags generate more engagement; implement them in your posts in order to reach your target audience.

Join Groups

Joining groups, especially those that are related to your industry, is a great way to keep abreast of all the action and to keep yourself updated on industry news. It is also a great way to see what your competition is up to as well as giving you insight on opportunities that might come up.

Create a Company Page

If your company does not already have a page on LinkedIn, make sure to set it up. Company pages help your business reach the target audience; they allow LinkedIn members to discover and connect with your company and learn more about your brand, products or services, career opportunities, and more.

LinkedIn is a great platform, especially when it comes to those business-to-business transactions; it gives you the ability to showcase your profile, expertise, recommendations and connections and also shows your credibility within the industry.
