Published EDU-WorldWide on Wednesday, February 27, 2019

New Horizons Australia Institute of Technology welcomed their second cohort of international students to Australia last week.

Students commenced in all three campuses, Sydney, Brisbane and Melbourne, eager to start their studies in the ICT50115 – Diploma of Information Technology qualification.

Orientation Day is an opportunity for the students to familiarise themselves with the campus and to get to know each other, the staff and the students already progressing through their studies in Australia. It’s also a great opportunity for students to ask questions about anything they’re uncertain about outside of class.

Below is a short summary of the students’ first day and a few quotes on how they hope to see their technology careers evolve.

Students welcomed in Melbourne

The students commencing in Melbourne were welcomed by Student Support Officer Trushita with a special hello from Henry Dolezal, New Horizons International Business Development Manager. New to the team, but not new to assisting students studying abroad, Trushita facilitated a friendly ‘Meet and Greet’ session where students shared a little about themselves, their journey getting to Australia, and their career goals after study at New Horizons.

Speaking about her new journey, Sanam told the Student Support Officer “I chose to study in Australia because it has become a good platform for higher education. Also because it’s my dream to study in Australia and the tuition fees are preferable. “Sanam’s ambition is to return home after completing her studies, so that she can use the skills that she will gain to help develop the country.

In a surprise coincidence a second student named Sanam said she chose to study in Australia because “Australia provides many facilities other than education. For proper education I need a good environment, and many sources recommended Australia to me. I chose New Horizons because they provide a good platform with certified trainers and an affordable fee in comparison to other schools.” After completing her studies Sanam plans to go back to Nepal to serve her country being experienced and qualified, having gained all the necessary knowledge.

Kanti told Trushita that she chose study in Australia to get better opportunities in the future, looking to take advantage of the pathway options available. “I want to study to eventually obtain my Masters in Information Technology. I would like to get a job in this sector in when I finish my studies.”

All students were excited about beginning their new student life in Australia and joining New Horizons said Trushita, adding that, “to my surprise, two students were friends from Nepal and were happy to be together. The orientation started well, we had a good introduction, with Cassandra, our Melbourne General Manager, and Henry addressing the students.”

One of the students arrived earlier in December 2018 taking time to explore Australia before her studies, and it was good to see that she has settled in well and getting accustomed to student life in Melbourne. Two other students arrived during the last week and were really looking forward to exploring Melbourne.

All students were all issued their student ID’s which enable them to receive discounts across Australia on things such as travel, food or entertainment.

Students were given a tour of the campus and shared time talking through the important points that need to be covered at orientation.

Students welcomed in Sydney

Sydney’s student support team Fiona and Deizi, welcomed Sydney’s newest students, alongside students already studying BSB51415 – Diploma of Project Management and ICT50115 – Diploma of Information Technology at the school. As the students got to know each other they shared stories of their experiences and gave helpful advice to the new students.

Speaking about this new journey, Kumar stated that, “I chose to study in Australia because in Nepal there is no practical system of learning. I want to study my course with the system of learning that New Horizons offers. I’m really excited to start my studies in Australia, and to follow my ambition to start my own business after graduation.”

Students welcomed in Brisbane

Jiv joined New Horizons to study the ICT50115 – Diploma of Information Technology in the Brisbane campus. “Australia is one of the best destinations for International Students because of its diversity and flexibility for overseas students. I think Australia is also one of the safest places in the world for International Students” Jiv stated.

Jiv was welcomed by the 13 students who are already studying BSB51415 – Diploma of Project Management and ICT50115 – Diploma of Information Technology.

Jiv is excited to get more work experience in Information Technology, and to implement that experience in order get a good job at the end of the course.

We at New Horizons Australia Institute of Technology, wish all the new students all the best with their studies as they embark on this new journey with us!
