OISC Sept 19 Courses

At OISC, we are still taking bookings for the Autumn term. Tuition is a mixture of private lessons and seminar groups, which are very international in their intake and average only 5 or 6 students at any one time, except in the English Language, where the average number is 10.

We offer a wide range of programmes including:

A-Level and (I)GCSE Programmes

- Full-year intensive programmes September 2018 to June 2019

- Revision programmes for students retaking:

September 2019 – June 2020 (3 terms)

January 2020– June 2020 (2 terms)

April 2020 – June 2020 (1 term)

Students may also attend at Easter and half terms for intensive revision.

The A-Level and (I)GCSE programmes offer a choice of over 30 subjects and we cater for all examination boards. For all students we include:

- Academic mentoring, including advice on the personal statement and UCAS

- Study Skills

- Free English Language lessons (if required) for students who also need to take or retake IELTS

Revision programmes for students retaking the IB Diploma

We shall once again be providing support for IB Diploma students who need to retake one or more of their papers. Most subjects are offered at both HL and SL, and also the Theory of Knowledge and Extended Essay requirements. The programmes are taught by experienced Oxford IB tutors.  Students usually stay for 12 weeks, but shorter courses are also possible.

The weekly schedule consists of:

- Specialist subjects – up to four subjects may be chosen, and students may adapt their schedule to include different subjects during their stay

- Support for the Theory of Knowledge requirement and for the Extended Essay

- Support in the English Language for students whose first language is not English (no charge)

The emphasis is on revision and working on problem areas. Students may also attend at Easter and half terms for intensive revision.

Oxford and Cambridge University Preparation programmes

Students must have a good school record and be fluent in English. The programme takes place from September to December 2019, but short courses in the October holidays are also offered for students applying from their own schools.

 The programme includes:

- Advice and orientation on applying to Oxford or Cambridge

- Written tests at and before the interview (all subjects to which this applies), with lessons with specialist tutors e.g. GMAT, ELAT, TSA, etc.

- Interview practice (general) and Current Affairs discussion groups with an admissions tutor from the university and other experienced Oxford tutors

- Interview practice (subject-specific)

- Personal statements.

- If required the course can be combined with a revision of school subjects relevant to Oxford or Cambridge prep. (We teach for A-Level, IB, AP, and Abitur)

Students may also attend at Easter and half terms for intensive revision.

Foundation Programmes

The OISC Foundation programmes last 3 terms with two entry dates:

                        September 2019 – June 2020 (3 terms)

or: Intensive programme:

January 2020– August 2020 (2 terms plus vacation)

Successful completion of the programme leads to entry to one of our 19 partner Universities in a range of subjects including Business, Sciences and Engineering, and Humanities.

Pre-Boarding School programme

The OISC Pre-Boarding Programme is designed to assist young students to prepare for entry to Boarding School. The tests usually take place between November and January. Younger students normally specialise in Verbal and Non-verbal reasoning, English and Maths, whereas older students often work upon subject tests for entry at 13+ and 16+ examinations. We prepare students for ISEB or UKISET examinations and special entry examinations including for Scholarships.

The length of time spent in the Pre-Boarding programme depends on individual circumstances as each child has different background, skills and needs. We have excellent links with many British schools so can assist with school placement if required.
