Join Maximo Nivel's Holiday Program This Season

Published on Tuesday, November 7, 2017

Maximo Nivel’s Holiday Volunteer Program offers participants the opportunity to get involved in a number of projects throughout the holiday season.

From December 24th, 2017 until January 6th, 2018, Maximo Nivel produces special weekly volunteer programs, with the option of Spanish immersion courses. Choose to participate in group or private classes as you spend your week giving back. Volunteer projects include working with kids, construction and remodeling, assisting the elderly, eco-agriculture on a coffee farm, contributing to a medical campaign, and of course, coordinating and participating in the annual Holiday party for children and the elderly. Weekly program itineraries are already prepared and vary by week and destination.

San Jose, Costa Rica

Each week of the holiday program in San Jose, Costa Rica (December 24th-December 30th and December 31st-January 6th) volunteers will work on beautifying a child care project in one of the more underserved communities in the city. You might work painting, gardening, and minor construction. Volunteers also work inside of a childcare facility helping to care for the children, and help to coordinate a special holiday party. Participants end their week assisting in an elderly facility, spending time practicing language skills, and playing board games.

Antigua, Guatemala

Volunteers in Guatemala can choose one of two groups, A.M or P.M. Each group has a different itinerary, and the programs also vary from week to week. From December 24th-December 31st, volunteers in the A.M group will begin on an eco-coffee farm just outside of the charming city of Antigua, and end their program helping to care for children with disabilities. Volunteers choosing the P.M. session begin their week helping to prepare a holiday party for the children at a childcare facility, and end the week assisting on the organic coffee farm.

For the AM group in the second week of the program (December 31st-January 6th), the week starts off volunteering with the elderly as you play board games, and have wisdom imparted to you. Following the holiday party you plan and throw for the facility, volunteers will work together on a construction project which might have you painting, renovating, or constructing a new facility in a local community. Those in the PM group will first try their hand at a construction project early in the week, and then switch to working with kids and holiday fun.

Cusco, Peru

During the first week in Cusco, Peru, volunteers will coordinate a children’s Christmas party, work to develop the community through a construction project, and help to distribute needed health supplies to rural communities through a medical campaign. The second week sees volunteers assisting to care for the rescued dogs of Cusco, distributing basic health supplies in the Andes, and working alongside an Andean community for an indigenous immersion experience.

No matter your program itinerary or destination, a Holiday Volunteer Program with the additional Spanish lessons will grant you the opportunity to impact, give back, learn, and grow like never before this holiday season.
