Diversity and quality define ICEF Beijing Workshop 2017

Published on Saturday, October 21, 2017

With 393 participants from 34 countries taking part in 3 281 pre-scheduled meetings, ICEF’s Beijing Workshop is the company’s second-largest regional workshop, and the largest event of its kind in Asia.

This workshop, which took place between 11 and 13 October 2017, welcomed 181 educators and service providers from 121 organisations and 196 quality pre-screened agents from 142 agencies, with representatives from 34 countries across four continents. Education institutions came primarily from the USA (33%), the UK (13%), and Canada (12%), with representation from markets as diverse as Brunei, Bulgaria, the Czech Republic, Ireland, New Zealand, and Spain. “This was a well-organised event which I attended for the first time this year. I met a good number of agents with whom I intend to follow up and establish a close working relationship”, said Will Liu of the University of Winchester in the UK.

On the agent side, 58% of agents were from mainland China, down from 69% in 2016. This statistic emphasises the increasing diversity of agents attending ICEF’s Beijing Workshop this year, with South Korea, Mongolia, Nepal and India strongly represented. Agents also attended from Bangladesh, Japan, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, and Vietnam. Commenting on the 2017 ICEF Bejing Workshop, Tanvirul Islam Mahim, an agent from HT Global in Bangladesh, said: “This was my first ICEF workshop and it was an awesome experience. I met some important contacts who will surely help my business grow. All of my meetings were productive.”

In addition to their programme of pre-scheduled meetings, participants took advantage of an extensive seminar programme, including sessions on how to work with agents in China, how to secure a place at a top UK university, and how to get the most out of ICEF Agent Training Courses – including the Chinese Education Agent Course (CEAC), set up in partnership with BOSSA, a government-supported industry association of education agencies. Entertainment enjoyed by participants included traditional name painting, Chinese dancers, taking tea with a Kung-Fu Tea Master, a show by Chinese magicians and traditional music as part of their welcome reception in Beijing.

The next ICEF Beijing Workshop will take place between 10 and 12 October 2018 at the Grand Millennium Beijing, China. To find out more, please visit: www.icef.com/beijing.
