High number of first-time participants at the ICEF Mexico-Colombia Agent Roadshow

Published on Friday, March 24, 2017

On February 28 and March 3, 2017, the ICEF Mexico - Colombia Agent Roadshow offered one-day workshops in Mexico City and Bogota. During the event, 295 participants from 17 countries conducted 1 828 on-site business meetings. Of all roadshow participants, 14% were attending their first ICEF event.

Mexico and Colombia are the second and third largest economies in Latin America respectively, after Brazil. The middle class and family expenditure on education in both countries have steadily expanded in recent years, making these two markets particularly attractive to international educators. This year there was an overall increase in the number of participants that attended the event. The 2017 ICEF Mexico-Colombia Agent Roadshow hosted 14 service providers from 7 countries and 68 educators from 13 countries worldwide. Participating institutions showcased a large spectrum of programmes, such as language courses, high school, undergraduate, master, doctorate, career and vocational programmes, as well as graduate and postgraduate certificates.

In Mexico, the number of post-secondary students going overseas is increasing each year due to families' ability and willingness to send their children abroad for schooling. This year ICEF hosted 89 education agents in Mexico, of which 23% were new to the roadshow. "I have been attending ICEF conferences for the last 18 years. Always excellent, all of my schools come from networking at the ICEF conference," said Rodolfo Robles, Director, Viajes Nuevo León - Especialistas en Educación en el Extranjero, Mexico.

In Colombia, the roadshow welcomed 119 agents, including 23% of first-time attendees - a significant increase from last year.  "We enjoy coming to this roadshow because we find it very useful in getting new contacts and industry updates. Thanks to the ICEF staff for being so friendly and helpful," Juan Pablo Arango, Manager, AIE Consulting, Colombia. Colombia has increased its education budget by 5.75% to 14.52 billion USD in 2015, making it the first time that the Colombian government spent more money on education than on the military.

The roadshow was supported by key local industry associations - the Mexican Association of Educational Tourism (AMTE) and the ANEX - National Association of Education Advisors.

The next ICEF Mexico - Colombia Agent Roadshow will be held on March 5-9, 2018, at the Hilton Mexico City Reforma Hotel in Mexico and the Hilton Bogota Hotel in Colombia. Visit for more information.
