The recent spike in local coronavirus cases has been very concerning. While FELTOM welcomes the new measures introduced by the government to safeguard the nation, the closure of all educational facilities and in-person training has dealt yet another blow to our already struggling industry.
Furthermore, the Central Visa Unit’s decision to temporarily suspend the issuance of visas for prospective ELT students, while the airport is still open to visitors, will further exacerbate the damaging impact on our schools.
The ELT industry has been in a precarious situation since February last year and is in dire need for more effective support from the government in order to survive.
The four-week long closure has come at a time when English language schools would not only be gearing up for an influx of students but, under normal circumstances, would already be processing bookings for the upcoming summer months.
FELTOM hopes that consultation meetings with government will soon be held to discuss mitigating measures that will safeguard the very survival of our industry.
