Puerto de la Cruz is promoting its image as an Educational, Language and Cultural Destination

On 30th September, 1st and 2nd October FEDELE will be hosting the ¡VAMOS! Español en España FEDELE Workshop in Puerto de la Cruz. This international event has enjoyed the sponsorship and collaboration of Tenerife’s local government, the Cabildo Insular, and Puerto de la Cruz City Council.

¡VAMOS! Español en España FEDELE Workshop is a professional gathering of agencies specialised in language tourism and FEDELE schools, and has been celebrated since 1999. This year's event will receive around one hundred participants, including international agents from Italy, the Netherlands, Germany, Poland, South Korea, Bulgaria, Ukraine, Spain, Slovakia, France, Japan, Serbia, Georgia, Thailand and Russia.

The event will take an innovative format based on social networking, offering cultural, tourist and gastronomic activities that will allow participants to get to know the highlights of Spain’s cultural and linguistic immersion programmes while enjoying Tenerife’s iconic locations.

This year's edition will feature Japan as a special guest thanks to the collaboration of Turespaña in the invitation of agents from the country, and more than 30 representatives of schools from all over Spain and 40 international consultants specialised in linguistic stays will also be participating.

FEDELE is the Spanish Federation of Schools of Spanish as a Foreign Language, and currently has 96 schools distributed throughout Spain. All FEDELE centres are accredited by the Instituto Cervantes for teaching Spanish as a foreign language.

There are up to 572 million Spanish-speakers in the world, and 21.2 million more study it as a foreign language. Language tourism, which generates more than 2,000 million euros annually, has a huge potential for growth. Globally, the use of Spanish is constantly on the increase. 7.8% of the world's population use the language, according to the Instituto Cervantes, and the total number of Spanish-speakers is predicted to increase, reaching 754 million by mid-century.

Around 200,000 of these students choose Spain as a destination for a stay involving cultural and linguistic immersion, with an average stay of almost three weeks and an expenditure of around 2,500 euros. Students choose Spain due to the teaching methods, teaching materials and teachers, as well as for the climate, cultural opportunities, value for money and lifestyle.
