Equinox promotes Ireland

I'm just coming to the end of a ten-day business trip to Asia, during which I had the pleasure of visiting both Japan and Malaysia. In Tokyo and Osaka, our long-time partner agent I.S.E.S Japan was instrumental in my meeting over 120 parents/students from 17 schools to promote our tailor-made programmes and cultural and study opportunities in Ireland.

It would be safe to say that the majority of these Japanese students would not have considered Ireland as a destination of choice before we started designing and facilitating great programmes in association with our valued partners here and back in Ireland, including our wonderful and welcoming host families.

Whilst I was in Tokyo I took the opportunity to meet the parents/teachers of some of our academic students currently studying in Midleton College, Rockwell Colleges, Sutton Park School, St. Brigid's College (Callan) and The Presentation School (Thurles). We look forward to welcoming short term students this year from Japan to Athy College, St. Leos Carlow, Tyndall College Carlow, St. Brigid’s College (Callan) as well as other schools.

I also got to carry out an orientation presentation to 30 students, who are participating in our unique and exciting film project, '2020 Vision' this coming March in conjunction with St.Leo's College, Carlow, I.S.E.S Japan and the Embassy of Ireland in Japan. Watch this space for further updates!

In Kuala Lumpur, I met with another strong advocate for Ireland, Educational consultant CK Chiau from MyStudy and his associate Yeong Ginn from Study Hub Asia, who will both be bringing Malaysian students to Carlow this year. Overall, the trip was a great success for Equinox as we got to reaffirm existing relationships and build many new ones.

In 2020 we are preparing to receive twelve groups from Asia to the south-east of Ireland alone which will be a significant boost to our local economy and indeed nationally as our groups visit touristic sights like Glendalough, Kilkenny Castle, Book of Kells, St. Patrick's Cathedral, Waterford Crystal, National Heritage Park as well as our national museums. I look forward to receiving them and the growing number of students from other destinations in what will be a very busy year ahead for Equinox.
