Interviewing Ian Scerri, General Manager at ELA Malta

In today's interview we had a chat with Ian Scerri, General Manager at ELA Malta during which we spoke about various aspects including the evolution of the school over the past 32 years since it's been open; the transition into a bigger and better-equipped building; what ELA has planned for the upcoming year as well as the school's Unique Selling Points (USP's).

Unique Selling Points

  1. ELA Malta has been open since 1988 and it is one of the founding members of FELTOM.
  2. Small classrooms (Maximum 10 adult students per class in summer and maximum of 8 in the shoulder months)
  3. The only TOEFL IBT centre in Malta
  4. 70 nationalities - great student nationality mix
  5. Native teachers, and a very low turnover of staff
  6. 17% student return rate
  7. Agents have nicknames ELA as "The School with a Heart" because members of staff really go out of their way to help students throughout their whole stay

The school has developed over the years

ELA Malta started as a small school to cater for German 1-1 adult students. Over the years the school has diversified and entered various other markets and age groups too. So nowadays the school caters for over 70 nationalities, all ages from children attending family courses, to teens attending the very popular ELA Teen Camp, to adults attending General English, Business English as well as other courses that the school offer. For a full range of programmes that ELA offers, you can check out their website here.

2019 was a big year for ELA Malta because they took over a new building in Gzira which is fully equipped with state of the art teaching material, interactive whiteboards and all the other equipment that any teacher or student would be happy to be surrounded by.

What shall we expect in 2020?

  1. Long-term package courses
  2. Family programmes
  3. Teen programmes continue to be popular and will be improved in 2020
  4. Activity packages have been improved too
  5. Teachers are being trained specifically to teach teens

Fam Trip 2020

ELA Malta will organise one or two fam trips in 2020 and this is a great opportunity for agents to come and see for themselves why ELA is "the school with a heart". If there are any agents who are interested in visiting ELA Malta and participate in these fam trips, all you need to do is drop us a line and we will put you in touch with the Marketing team at the school.
