Eaquals Celebrates Innovative Award Schemes at Annual International Conference

Eaquals took their annual member training event, Eaquals Training for Excellence, to Poland this year. The event, which was held in Krakow from 22 -23 November, was open to non-members for the first time and offered attendees two full-day workshops in addition to plenary speakers, networking and social events.

The conference was officially opened by Eaquals Chair, Justin Quinn, who welcomed attendees and reflected on the past year. Eaquals updates were then delivered by Executive Director, Lou McLaughlin and Director of Accreditation, Ludka Kotarska, before the conference was opened by Professor Maria Próchnicka, Secretary General of the Polish Accreditation Committee and Vice Dean for Faculty Development, Jagiellonian University in Krakow. Liam Brown provided the conference opening plenary with Customer Focused Working – ways of paying attention to what matters.

It was announced during Lou McLaughlin’s updates that Eaquals is currently developing an Academic Management Competences Framework, drawing on expertise from George Pickering, Martyn Clarke, Gillian Davidson, Ania Kolbuszewska, Inma Molina, Maureen McGarvey and Nergis Uyan. The pilot will take place next year, with the scheme due to be launched in 2021.

It was also revealed that Eaquals and NILE will launch a new Academic Management Training course. The two-month programme will combine one face to face session with seven online classes. The face to face session will be held ahead of the Eaquals International Conference, in Belfast on April 2nd. Participants will undertake a combination of course work and assignments to complete the course.

Eaquals was delighted to confirm the recipients of the 2020 Member Event Fund during the conference opening. Now entering into the fifth year, the Eaquals Member Event Fund continues to support professional events organised by members and partners. View the full list of 2020 recipients here.

At the two-day event, participants choose two full-day sessions from four available strands. This year, attendees were offered; Inclusion & SEN with Varinder Unlu, Application of CEFR with Thom Kiddle & Peter,

Leadership with Alec Pearson and Marketing with Philippe Taza.

The closing plenary, Copernicus of Kraków - New Eyes, New Worlds, New Words, was delivered by Peter Brown, before the Eaquals Chair and Trustees officially closed Eaquals Training for excellence 2019.

Reflecting on the event, Lou McLaughlin, Executive Director of Eaquals said:

“As always, we had a high level of engagement with attendees on all of the training strands we ran this year. The strands themselves were extremely relevant and delivered tangible, practical tools, tips and techniques to all in attendance – which will then be disseminated in their own working environments”.

The Eaquals annual international conference will be held in Belfast, 2 – 4 April 2020, with the next Eaquals Training for Excellence in Sofia, 13 – 14 November 2020.
