guard.me raises $10,000 for CAMH at IH conference in Toronto

Published on Saturday, August 19, 2017

Earlier this summer, guard.me International Insurance raised $10,000 for the Centre for Mental Health and Addiction (CAMH) during the annual charity auction at the 2017 International House Directors' Conference in Toronto.

The International House Directors' Conference takes place every year in a different city and always includes a charity auction as part of its program. The money typically goes to a local cause related to education. As the host of the first ever IH Directors' Conference in Toronto, Canada, guard.me decided to make CAMH its charity of choice for the event.

"We chose CAMH because it is aligned with our values as an organization," says Keith Segal, president of guard.me International Insurance. " Our keep.me SAFE program is dedicated to education and health promotion to help transform the lives of students affected by mental health issues."

CAMH is Canada's largest mental health and addiction teaching hospital, as well as the world's leading research centre for mental illness. The money raised by guard.me will go to support various initiatives at CAMH, including providing comprehensive, well-coordinated and accessible care for people who have problems with mental illness and addictions.

"We are so grateful to guard.me for its support. Their team came together in such an inspirational way," says Jennifer Hearn, Manager, Cause Marketing & Corporate Development at CAMH. "Their generous contribution will go directly to supporting CAMH’s highest needs -- providing better care and treatments for our clients.”

This is not the first time that guard.me has chosen to align itself with CAMH. This past spring, guard.me staff, as part of the keep.me SAFEinitiative, stayed up all night in the lobby of the Westin Harbour Castle Hotel as part of the CAMH One Brave Night for Mental Health™. The Canada-wide challenge raises funds and awareness for the one in five Canadians living with mental illness in any given year.

The Westin Harbour Castlegenerously provided the guard.me team with a luxury Westin Heavenly bed and refreshments in a prime location in the lobby. Throughout the night, colleagues, friends and guests of the hotel dropped by to show their support and take photos. At dawn, the group posted #sunriseselfies and videos to share their experience.
