Oxford Spires Launches University Summer Programme

Published on Monday, November 20, 2017

Historic Oxford has been an immensely popular English study destination for years and attracts students and tourists from all over the world. Together with its academic prestige and rich literary history, it is the perfect location for the Oxford Spires University Summer programme.

Open to international students aged 13-17, this University Summer programme offers University and British themed classes which cover a wide range of topics, aimed at inspiring students and immersing them in university life in Oxford. Tuition themes include insight into British university life, leadership skills, exploring Oxford’s academic and literary history, preparing and delivering an effective speech or presentation. Classes are complemented by visits from University lecturers and guest speakers as well as a formal gala dinner in a real university college dining hall; Harry Potter fans will feel like they’re in the Great Hall at Hogwarts!

Students have the choice of staying in homestay accommodation, which gives them a feel of British family life, or residential accommodation, which adds to the university experience with sociable common rooms and evening entertainment.

When not engaged in classes, students take part in varied weekly workshops which act as a practical extension of their English lessons, and allow them to experience English language learning in real-life contexts that interest and captivate them the most. The workshops are project-based and involve lots of group work, and students are free to sign up to whichever one interests them the most. From sports to business, academic to more creative activities, there’s something for everyone.

A wide and exciting array of social activities are included as well, such as visiting Oxford University colleges (many of which are Harry Potter filming locations, appealing to the fans again!), exploring Oxford museums, and punting on the river Thames. There’s also British afternoon tea and trips to beautiful Blenheim Place. Two day trips at the weekend round out the programme; one of which is always London, and the other a British university city, such as Bath or Cambridge.

The University Summer programme gives a real focus to students who are keen to experience a taste of British university life and culture, and caters for individual interests in order to build students’ confidence and develop their skills.
