NH Australia

Deciding to study and work overseas across countries is always a great idea…But choosing to study and work in Australia is even better!

To put things into perspective, Australia continues to be one of the most popular destinations to study abroad, as its student numbers has increased within the following years with a rise of 11.4% in 2018 which resulted in over 600,000 international students enrolled within the country (ICEF Monitor, March 2019).

Visiting Australia as a student helps to improve your self-confidence. As soon as the students are settled down in their new location, it’s common for them to start seeking out jobs to get some work experience.

Knowing one’s rights and accounting is necessary for International Students. New Horizons held an accounting seminar on 21st May 2019 and it happened to be extremely helpful and informative when learning about the regulations of working in Australia. The purpose of this seminar was for students to be guided and given the best possible information. The Y&S accounting covered all the basic and important concepts of Australian taxation and working rights that every international student should be aware of.

The different topics of interest were:

- ABN services

- Minimum wages

- Cancelling ABN

- Other income

- Claiming tax returns after leaving Australia

- Overseas transaction

- Education provider – conducting classes a day per week

- Tax Obligation

- Expenses to claim

- Tax File Number (TFN)

- Fairwork

- Tax declaration

- Steps for tax return

- Tax return in payment summary

- Immigration and ATO program

- Tax returns filed with help of agent

- Insurance at work

Through seminars like this, we aim to pass on relevant information to our students, through knowledgeable and trustworthy sources. At New Horizons Australia we understand that studying abroad is a worldly experience that comes with many questions, and challenges. It is our mission to support and guide our students, so they receive the best experience possible.
