Volunteering at a Turtles Conservation Project - Maximo Nivel Costa Rica

Published EDU-WorldWide on Thursday, August 9, 2018

Costa Rica and Guatemala's coasts are home to dozens of important nesting beaches for four turtle species: leatherback, green, hawksbill, and olive ridley. Our projects are located on both the Caribbean and the Pacific coasts, where volunteers provide support to local communities, biologists and researchers who are involved in managing the turtle nesting grounds. Nesting season on the Pacific Coast has just started and volunteers joining our Turtle Conservation Program can witness mass arrivals (called arribadas) that may involve as many as 20,000 turtles arriving on the beach to nest in a single night.
