La Gomera, Canary Islands: Learn Spanish with this rare opportunity!

Published EDU-WorldWide on Tuesday, July 31, 2018

Island Learning is a small but friendly Spanish language school located in the historic heart of San Sebastian, the island’s capital.  Once every 5 years the town plays host to Las Lustrales; a religious festival that draws thousands of faithful during the month of October.

The floating parade of carefully decorated boats which arrive to the historical port of San Sebastian are greeted by thousands of on lookers waiting to escort the patron saint of the island “Nuestra Señora de Guadalupe” on her way to the church just a short distance from the beach.  The church itself is reason to visit La Gomera.  It is reputed to be the place of worship for Christopher Columbus and his crew before they set off on their epic voyage and still contains beautifully decorated tapestries as well as other fascinating artifacts.  Besides witnessing first hand this unique celebration, students studying with Island Learning will be able to take part in many special activities prepared for this memorable occasion.  Island Learning students also have the chance to explore the island on various excursions to points of interest, see traditional dancing, or listen to the UNESCO protected whistling language; Silbo.

We will be offering students a 2-week “Las Lustrales” special course during this time with limited places.  The course will take advantage of the festivities happening around us and focus on students improving their language skills with direct interaction with the language and culture of the island.

The course will be 2 weeks with 15 hours of tuition/week
