ICEF agent training marks rapid growth with two major milestones

Published EDU-WorldWide on Saturday, November 3, 2018

ICEF celebrated two significant milestones today, announcing the 700th agent to graduate from its Canada Course for Education Agents (CCEA), and the fact that over 30 000 participants around the world are now registered for ICEF agent training courses.

The 700th Canada Course graduate is Ms. Hyeyung Park. ICEF’s CCEA gives agents and other professionals a firm foundation in the benefits, structure, and organisation of Canada’s education system. It also provides agents with the resources they need to advise students seeking to study in Canada. According to data released by the Canadian government in April 2018, foreign students in Canada have tripled over the last decade to reach more than 500 000. Canada is now the fourth-largest destination market for foreign students behind the US, UK, and China, and foreign students are estimated to add $15 billion to the Canadian economy each year.

“We are proud to have reached these two milestones: 700 Canada Course Graduates, and more than 30 000 training course participants,” said Tiffany Egler, ICEF’s Agent Relations Director. “Education agents play an important role in counselling and referring students to education providers both in Canada and around the world, so it’s great to see so many professionals successfully completing this course and engaging in our other training programmes. We look forward to welcoming more people to our training programmes as they develop their expertise in important markets like Canada, the US, Ireland and others.”

Originally produced by ICEF and Canada’s Department of Foreign Affairs and International Trade in collaboration with the Canadian Consortium for International Education (CCIE), the CCEA is now jointly owned and operated by ICEF, Languages Canada, and the Canadian Association of Public Schools International (CAPS-i), with the support of the CCIE. The CCEA provides education agents with a general foundation in Canada’s education systems and processes as they relate to international students, including information on the various types of study programmes available, application processes, and fee and scholarship information.

ICEF offers five agent training programmes in total – two “professional courses”, the ICEF Agent Training Course (IATC) and the China Education Agent Course (CEAC), and three “destination courses”, the Canada Course for Education Agents (CCEA), the Irish Education Agents Course (IEAC), and the US Agent Training Course (USATC).
