ICEF Southeast Asia

The third annual ICEF Southeast Asia hosted from June 19 – 21, 2019 in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam, saw an overall attendee growth of 11%, with over 350 participants from 26 countries.

The event hosted 198 agents from 11 countries in the region. Recognising the importance of quality agents, Julia Salema from Study Insured by Ingle International, Canada said: “I enjoy regional ICEF events. The agents are well vetted, and they come with well-researched questions. It shows good preparation. This was my second time attending ICEF Southeast Asia, and I highly recommend it.”

This year, agent participation grew by an impressive 18% over 2018, with 23% of agents attending an ICEF event for their first time. Countries represented were Vietnam, Philippines, Thailand, China, Cambodia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong SAR, Laos, and Myanmar.

Thao Ha, Education Counsellor at Inter GoGo Vietnam JSC, explained the event by saying: “It was very informative for agents. We had the opportunity to connect with many new schools in some key markets and some new potential markets like Malaysia and Spain.”

Speaking to the overall significance of ICEF events, Greg Pritchard, Director of Marketing, Admissions & Communications, Raffles University, Malaysia said: “ICEF events offer a one-stop meeting place where I can target the markets Raffles University wants to penetrate. The compact programmes are ideal for busy people like me, but still provide ample time to network with high-quality contacts. I thoroughly recommend ICEF events.”

A total of 122 educators from 87 organisations participated in ICEF Southeast Asia. Countries with a strong presence included Canada, the USA, Australia, the UK, and Spain.

Rob Turner from Yamanashi Gakuin University – International College of Liberal Arts, Japan said: “Fantastically well-organised event. A great opportunity to meet high-quality representatives from several countries around the region. I would recommend this event to any university looking to increase their representation within Southeast Asia.”

Echoing the general praise for the event, Guy St. Clair, Global Sales Director – Agents, Cohort Go, Australia said: “ICEF Southeast Asia has been very useful for managing existing clients, as well as for generating new sales, building our brand exposure, and growing our agent network. We have closed ten good new deals already.”

An extensive seminar programme featured topics including market insights from Malaysia, Indonesia, Philippines, and Singapore, understanding the study abroad market in Thailand, and an overview of institution-to-institution partnerships in Vietnam.

On the day after the event ended, a group of ICEF staff and participants visited KOTO, a social enterprise supported by the ICEF Education Fund, where they met with the founder, Jimmy Pham. KOTO is a hospitality training project, allowing at-risk and disadvantaged youth to learn and thrive in their lives. KOTO, which stands for Know One, Teach One, has trained almost 1 000 students over the past twenty years supporting them into employment and business ownership.
