ICEF Moscow Workshop celebrates a special 20-year milestone

Published on Tuesday, April 25, 2017

On March 17-19, 2017 ICEF celebrated an important milestone - the 20th year of the ICEF Moscow Workshop. For two decades ICEF Moscow has attracted educators, agents, and industry service providers from all over the world looking to build new partnerships. This year was no different; in total 374 participants, 7% of whom were attending their first ICEF event, gathered in Moscow for two days of one-to-one business meetings and networking. Event attendees from 29 countries conducted 3 906 pre-scheduled meetings.

The decline of the Russian economy for the past two years largely precipitated by falling commodity prices – especially oil prices has been well documented. However, after two years in recession, the Russian economy is showing distinct signs of recovery. A recent ICEF Monitor survey shows three out of four Russian agents expect to refer more students abroad in 2017 than they did in 2016. This anticipated increase in study abroad and outbound tourism is largely due to the strengthening economy and the improved performance of the Russian ruble.

This year ICEF hosted educators from 99 organisations, a 5% increase from last year. “As always, the organisation and delivery of the event were superb. I've met some agents whom I first met at the ICEF workshops over 20 years ago, as well as new agents with whom I hope to develop long-standing relationships,” said Sarah Hughes, Business Manager, Redwing Education, Ardmore Language Schools Ltd., UK. Out of the 131 participating educators from 20 countries, 10% were first-timers.

The workshop attracted agents from 156 organisations, an 11% increase from last year. “ICEF Moscow is a must-attend for any agent from all over Russia and CIS countries. You won't find this quality anywhere else in the country or the region,” said Anna Korobkova, Overseas Relations Officer, TravelWorks, Russia. Amongst 207 participating agents from 12 countries including Russia, Ukraine, Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Azerbaijan, 16% attended their first ICEF Moscow Workshop.

In addition, the ICEF Moscow Workshop hosted an exciting seminar programme to share latest research and news affecting the world of international education, both regionally and globally. Seminars included updates on study abroad opportunities in Australia, the UK, Germany and the Czech Republic, as well as the pilot results of the Russian Education Scholarship Programme (GEP) and a panel of leading Russian agents discussing the latest market trends from Russia in a changing global environment.

The next ICEF Moscow Workshop will be held in March 2018, at the Ritz-Carlton in Moscow, Russia. Visit for more
