English Language Homestays: My favourite day of my trip to South Africa

Published on Tuesday, July 4, 2017

The busiest and favourite day of my trip to South Africa so far was last Friday. We woke up at 9.00 and left the house at 10.30, after breakfast. We fetched Emma, my host sister, from school and departed to go see lions at Drakenstein Lion Sanctuary.

I was excited about the idea of seeing some “wild typical African animals”. It was absolutely awesome! The cages that the lions were in were actually wildlife camps and they were so huge that we could not even spot the lions in some of them. But one of them, a lioness, came right up to the fence in front of us – she was not scared, and so very beautiful. We were looking at her when she suddenly roared and we got a massive fright!

After that, we were very hungry and we had lunch at the beautiful Spice Route Destination. We had a breathtaking view of the vineyards, Paarl village and the mountains, while the pizzas were also delicious. The weather was really nice.

Afterwards, my host mother took us to De Villiers Chocolate, where we did a chocolate tasting. We tried a lot of different kinds of chocolate – dark, milk, salty, some with fruit and others with spices… lovely!
