Published on Friday, March 24, 2017

The ICEF North America Workshop – Miami, ICEF’s largest agent networking event in North America, was held on December 5-7, 2016 at the Loews Miami Beach Hotel, USA. The workshop hosted 1,053 participants representing 715 organizations from 72 countries worldwide, 14% of whom were first-time ICEF workshop attendees. Over the course of two days, 451 educators, primarily from the US and Canada, had an opportunity to network with 425 international agents and 123 service providers through 10,057 one-to-one business meetings.

"ICEF Miami is always the peak of my recruitment season. ICEF Miami is the industry standard and serves a tremendous purpose. I've been all over the world and there are no other agent workshops like Miami. I always weigh the value proposition of ICEF and there is no doubt my ROI is exceeded every year," said Chris McGary, Assistant Head of School for Admissions, Foxcroft Academy, USA.

The workshop commenced with an extensive seminar program with 30 seminars and presentations from various thought leaders, associations, and industry representatives. A round table discussion on international recruitment in a changing global environment also took place. US institutions reported concerns presented by existing and prospective students regarding the current political climate in the country. The panel was comprised of a mix of educators from all US sectors, as well as education agents. Overall, the tone was very positive as many institutions continue to promote their brands as supportive and welcoming of the international student community.

Agent quality continues to be a defining aspect of the ICEF North America Workshop - Miami. "This was a great event. There was enough diversity that I was able to carry out my strategy for meeting agents from a specific country. The agents I met were interested in forming a partnership and we have plans for future meetings and events as follow up. Overall, I am very pleased with how things worked out. Attending this ICEF was the first step in moving into a new market and I am very pleased with the contacts that I made," said Judy Hershman, Principal, Vernon School District #22, Canada.

This year 23 participants completed the ICEF Coach program in Miami. ICEF Coach provides educators with targeted training to ensure institutions maximize their return on investment from their workshop experience. By working one-on-one with an ICEF coach, educators gained valuable follow up strategies and tips on working with agents. For more information on ICEF Coach, please visit www.icef.com/coach.

For the first time, ICEF introduced Facebook Live as a chance to get a sneak peek of the ICEF Miami Workshop in real time. All previous Facebook Live recordings can be viewed on ICEF's page @ICEFGmbH.

Another highlight of the workshop was the interactive pre-workshop seminar "Creating Your Digital Marketing Strategy: A Hands-On Workshop" presented by ICEF, in partnership with Intead, a digital technology company that helps institutions attract, recruit, orient, and retain international students. The workshop taught participants how to build a customized digital marketing plan based on their specific challenges and existing resources. In addition, the Center for Global Advancement of Community Colleges hosted a special pre-workshop seminar that explored the challenges, benefits, and solutions for agents and community colleges on working together successfully.

The next ICEF North America Workshop will be held in Vancouver, Canada on April 23-25, 2017, at the Hyatt Regency. Visit www.icef.com/en/workshops/the-icef-north-america-workshop-vancouver/ for more information.
