StudyTravel Star Awards 2017 shortlist unveiled

Published on Friday, August 04, 2017

The shortlist for the StudyTravel Star Awards 2017 has been released, celebrating the international education businesses that have most impressed their peers, with awards for study travel agents, language schools, high schools, vocational colleges, associations and service providers.

Now in their 12th year, the StudyTravel Star Awards are a unique peer-voted study abroad industry showcase, with agents voting for school partners and vice versa across a total of 23 categories.

The winners of the ST Star Awards 2017 will be revealed at an exclusive dinner dance event at the London Park Lane Hilton hotel on September 2, during the ST Alphe UK conference.

A prominent provider in the 2017 shortlist is Canada-based Tamwood International, which has nominations for ST Star English Language School North America, ST Star Junior Course for Under 18s and ST Star Vocational College for its Tamwood Careers division.

First-time nominees in the 2017 edition of the ST Star Awards include Alpadia in the ST Star German Language School category; Chinese provider Hutong School in the ST Star World Language School award; and Russian agency Star Academy in the ST Star Agency Eastern Europe section.

The ST Star New Agency category, meanwhile, rewards agencies that are less than five years old, with six shortlisted organisations this year hailing from Brazil, Italy, Malta and Spain.

An innovation for 2017 is the introduction of a ST Star Service Provider category, which replaces the former ST Star Insurance Provider award to incorporate a wider range of businesses, including accommodation providers, software companies, guardianship organisations and language exam boards, as well as insurance providers.

At the other end of the scale, some companies will be looking to join the prestigious ST Super Star Hall of Fame, reserved for organisations that have won their category five times and become ineligible to win again.

The ST Super Star Hall of Fame reached 18 members in 2016, with ESL Language Studies Abroad and Dr Walter the newest inductees.

Jonathan Kolber, Founder and Co-President of ILAC, which was one of the inaugural Super Stars in 2011 - in the ST Star English Language School North America category - said, "Becoming a Super Star was without any doubt a very humbling experience, and all of us at ILAC do recognise the award to be the most prestigious in the industry."

Swiss agency Boa Lingua became a Super Star after winning the ST Star Agency Western Europe award for a fifth time in 2013. Christian Graf, CEO, said, "It was an outstandingly rewarding experience to be one of the first agencies to enter the Hall of Fame with a Super Star award."

He added, "The ST Star Awards are a great driver for quality, professionalism and passion, and we're looking forward to continuing to make our strong contribution in this respect."

Since they were first launched in 2006, almost 50,000 votes have been cast in the history of the ST Star Awards, resulting in a total of 239 winners from 32 countries.
