LanguageCert International Test: News for the UK, Ireland, Malta and Cyprus

Published Lynne Farrugia on Tuesday, February 13, 2018

LanguageCert is an on-demand, four-skills-test, available to schools that are running the PON programmes in the UK, Ireland, Malta and Cyprus. This is now recognised as an external exam for the Italian PON system. The overall operations of LanguageCert is run by PeopleCert and it focuses on testing the 4 main language skills i.e. Listening, Reading, Writing and Speaking at all levels of the CEFR.

The PON scholarship helps students by providing funding of €3,100 per person + €200 to take a language course at a B2 level and following that an exam which can measure their progress. As per changes in regulations in 2017, students need to be of a B1 level on the CEFR to be able to take part.

The advantage of LanguageCert at this stage is that it is the only exam that can be booked at short notice while taking a language course. This also makes it easier for students to take the exam while they are still abroad for their language courses because as Henry Tolley, Head of Business Development, explains, “students can take an exam when they get back to Italy, but this could take a long time and funding for the whole programme will not be released until they have taken the exam.”

The latter has been explained in a statement issued by the exam board which said that “LanguageCert fulfils all the requirements of PON and offers the hosting schools the flexibility to deliver exams on demand within the three-week period, as it only requires 10 working days’ notice for exam bookings. This places LanguageCert in an ideal position to serve the needs of students for these types of short courses.”
