Announcing two new emerging market events for 2018: ICEF Ukraine Focus and ICEF Africa Workshop

Published on Friday, August 11, 2017

ICEF announced today the addition of two new key destinations in the 2018 workshop schedule. The new events in Ukraine and South Africa reflect ICEF’s ongoing commitment to developing student recruitment markets for its client base around the world. “Our clients have told us clearly that they wish to expand their efforts in Ukraine and Africa, so we are delighted to take ICEF to Kiev and Cape Town. The support from agents in the area has been overwhelming, and I am extremely confident that both events will be productive for all attendees,” said ICEF CEO Markus Badde.

The inaugural ICEF Ukraine Focus will take place in the capital city of Kiev from 19-20 March 2018, and will provide international educators and service providers with the opportunity to meet top-quality Ukrainian student recruitment partners. ICEF Ukraine Focus will be held just before the ICEF Moscow Workshop (23-25 March) and ICEF Central Asia Focus (27-28 March) events. This allows event attendees, especially those travelling from far distances, to efficiently attend all three workshops and build new working relationships in some of the most promising emerging markets in the region.

Ukraine is an increasingly important sending market for recruiters worldwide, and the British Council has recommended that higher education institutions and language training providers expand their recruitment efforts in Ukraine. Concerns about the quality of education at home, recent political turmoil, and the desire to pursue opportunities abroad have helped fuel a steady increase in outbound Ukrainian students over the past decade. Destinations such as the US, UK, Poland, Germany, and Canada are among the most popular choices for Ukrainian students.

The new ICEF Africa Workshop will be held in Cape Town, South Africa from 15-17 May 2018. This unique event will serve as both a destination and a regional workshop. As such, it will bring student recruitment agents from around the world interested in promoting South Africa as a study destination. It will also connect international educators and service providers with recruitment agents from all over Africa in order to promote outbound student mobility.

South Africa has established itself as a key study destination within Africa. While foreign enrolment has been under pressure in recent years, South Africa remains an important destination for students throughout the continent. Its proximity and affordability — along with the quality and reputation of South African higher education — continue to be important factors in attracting foreign students. Meanwhile, Africa is also home to some of the world’s most important emerging markets for student recruitment, including Nigeria, Ghana, Kenya, Uganda and Botswana.
